As we look forward to an upcoming Coffeehouse/Youth Quad renovation, let’s look back on the history of “The Coffeehouse”…

After completing the Phase III sanctuary and classroom addition in 1995, the leadership at Bloomingdale Church determined that the classroom closest to the gym would be transformed into a “coffeehouse” with the goal of attracting high school and college-aged students. Under the leadership of Dr. Kozuh and numerous youth pastors, the Coffeehouse was open on Thursday, Friday and/or Saturday nights. From 2005-2013, the Coffeehouse attracted high school students on Friday nights with its offerings of sports tournaments, live band nights, and free smoothies.  In 2009, Mark and Kora T. enhanced the Coffeehouse: rebranding it “264.coffeehouse” and purchasing an italian espresso machine. Acknowledging the influx of students from the community, Matt and Christine M. were hired in 2011 to focus on Youth Community Outreach. In 2013, the Youth Ministry (under the leadership of Daniel Riemenschneider) completed an extensive internal research project (www.storiesof.us/reimagined), concluding that it was essential to make significant youth ministry programming changes if we were to continue to strive toward our mission of being“a safe and welcoming place for 7-12th grade students to develop friendships, be mentored, and find Jesus.”
