When was the last time that you got a fresh start? For me, I still retain a favorable memory of when I first went to college. I had just moved seven hundred miles from home. No one really knew who I was. While I was still the same old Daniel, I also got to re-imagine how I wanted to introduce myself to my new friends. In a way, I was a blank slate.
My guess is that this may be a season of “getting a fresh start” for you. You may have started at a new school. Or you might have made some new friends in your new classes. You may be trying out a new extracurricular activity. If you are a parent, this is a (much anticipated) season of starting a new family schedule.
Our Youth Group community is experiencing many fresh starts too. In June, Nate & Anna Kugel joined our Youth Staff, ushering in a team-based youth ministry approach. This summer, we relaunched Friday night coffeehouse to include Jr High students and a weekly gathering event. We also launched a 7th and 9th grade Bridge Group, helping students successfully transition. On September 8, Tim Hauser (Jr High) and Gordon Paisely (High School) will begin teaching at our Sunday Morning Youth Group gathering. Also on September 8, we start our neighborhood Small Groups. Of course, we absolutely hope that you will be an active participant in these new programs.
Finally, I am reminded of Jesus’ promise of renewal to anyone who trusts Him as Savior. A follower of Jesus named Paul wrote, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation: The old has gone, the new is here! (2 Cor 5:17). Now that is a TRUE FRESH START!
