Guess what!? I got to go to the Tim Hughes concert last night. It was really good. For you who don’t know who Tim Hughes is, he is a English Christian singer. He wrote ” Here I am to Worship ” and ” Beautiful one ” and a bunch of other songs. He is also really nice ( yes I got to talk to him ) and I got a picture with him ( which made Ellery and Alexis jealous ) so they ran over to get a picture with him too. And we also had front row seats. It was free too. He was playing for the Alpha conference so he had an evening concert for anyone who wanted to come.

I got to go too! Me, Alexis, Mom, Lucinda,Brett, and Chardy (that’s Charlotte to you guys). Wow! That’s all I can say. I’ve never connected to God through worship in that way until that night. It was beautiful. Incredibly moving.

Wow, haven’t been on here for a while…I’ve decided that Josh in now my new Best Friend. Your so funny!

Anyway, if you all wouldn’t mind…please pray for Brett as he will be moving in less then a month to Colorado. Also pray for Brian Carlin…so is he! What’s with that place? Why is everyone in such a hurry to get there?!
I can’t believe how hard it is to face losing 2 people I care about! Never happened to me before…hurts.

I had this random discovery last night. Remember in Sunday school how Tommy talked about the TV/movies/media he watched affected what he did and who he was? Here’s a random observation about that…
This week I have been video the Day Camp kids. This is the fourth year I’ve done it, but I have never noticed so many kids throwing up the peace sign when I put the camera in their face (They especially like doing the peace sign with two hands.)
Joel and Melissa were in my office when I was editing so I mentioned this to them. Melissa told me that Hanna Montana is known to throw up the peace sign in her pictures. Therefore the kids were mimicking her. Media influences!

Hey everyone. I don’t know about you guys but I’m already having fun at VBS. I love how all of the teens put there time and energy into this to have a good time not caring what they might look like dancing around. I think thats a lot cooler then the kids who come and just stand there thinking its stupid. But we’ll get them dancing soon enough. I’ll make sure of that. GO TEAM ISRAEL!!!

ok the last week of school i had to write a poem for a project
    so here it goes….

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE HUMAN RACE
    gas is going up
its like 3 dallors a cup
    pollution is killing our water
    and people are getting slaughtered
epidemics arise in more than one place
what happened to the human race

natrual disasters are on the rise
and soon things will be falling from our skies
people donate thier lives to war
and they have to experiance the gore
what have we done with Gods grace
what happened to the human race

food will soon need to be rationed
while killing has become a passion
there will be no where to hide
    while cities collide
    there will be no trace
of what was once known as the human race

what’s up everyone? Lou is a great person. If I ever needed something I could count on him. he gave me advice, and when I needed someone to talk to, Lou was there. He is there for everyone who ever needed something or someone to talk to. Lou helped the youth group out a lot, but I think we need to help him out this time. I know some of you probably are praying for him and Lina and thanks, but I encourage every one to pray for them. I’m not asking much, I just want you guys to be there for someone who was there for us.

Four more classes are left and the best is yet to come, especially this Sunday (May 18). I was impressed with the huge turnout (over 30 ppl) and everyone’s enthusiasm despite much of the focus on the doom and gloom ahead. Better to know what’s coming (good and bad) than be totally surprised and unprepared, IMO. I hope to see you and another 30 or more ppl this Sunday too.

Please join me for 5 weeks of Sunday School starting this Sunday, May 11th in the Coffeehouse from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. I’ll bring breakfast too. Consider inviting a friend for this unique experience.

We’ll focus on God’s plan for the End Times and His foreknowledge of related future events that will directly affect each one of us. We’ll examine some important end time prophecies that have already fulfilled and many others that are in process of being fulfilled right now. Jesus said the generation that witnesses these events will see Him return.

You need to know this stuff. Most people, including many Christians, are unaware or don’t want to know what’s about to happen. We’ll link God’s Word about the end times to current world events to demonstrate that our time remaining on this earth may be short.

    The Sermon on the Mount:
What an uproar this sermon has caused! Past, present, and future!!! Recently, I have been reading in my school books about the sermon on the mount. If you want to read something more disturbing then anything (other then the revelations) I’ve ever read in the bible, this is it. I recomend ” The Message.” A modern translation of the Bible. See you all at coffee house!

    Vote -1 Vote +1danielr reply on May 8th, 2008:

thats interesting ellery that you mentioned the message version of the sermon on the mount. i have been thinking about it lately since we are doing the beatitudes this summer in youth group (which is part of the sermon on the mount). So anyways I was looking it up in the message…very challenging. i was actually inspired to make some art based on the passage…its currently my facebook picture so check it out.

    Vote -1 Vote +1Ellerina reply on May 9th, 2008:

I think what scares me most about this passage is the fact that I feel like I will never be good enough. Talk about a guilt trip. How am I supposed to react to this part of the bible?!

    Vote -1 Vote +1Tim reply on May 13th, 2008:

You are absolutly right, you will never be good enough. How are you suppoused to react? Well be thankful to God. He is so merciful that even though we can never live up to the way God wants us to he still forgives us. I’m not going to lie, every time i read the bible I realize that I have failed God some way or another. Yet there is always hope. Obviously you have probably heard this 20 billion times but Jesus died for our sins with God knowing that we are imperfect. All of our imperfections were put with Jesus on the cross so that God will allow us to be saved… I doubt you want to read anymore but I’m going to keep going because I am wasting my time not doing homework by writing this. Feel free to stop reading if you would like. Do not forget this, Jesus dieing on the cross for us does not give us a free pass to heaven. When you have become a Christian you are called to be a light of the world and spread the gospel to the farthest corners of the earth. God’s grace is sometimes a very hard thing to accept in todays world. It does not give us the right to live our lives in the way that we want to. Romans 6:15-16 “Well then, since God’s grace has set us free from the law, does that mean we can all go on sinning? Of course not! Don’t you realize that you become the slave of whatever you choose to obey? You can be a slave to sin, which leads to death, or you can choose to obey God, which leads to righteous living.” Do not become a slave to sin…

    Hi everybody!
I just got home from our first marching band practice and it is really exciting not to be a freshman anymore (only in practice of course, I still am a freshman at school)! I am so excited for a new season to start again, but I ‘m not to happy about having to miss outreaches and other things once school starts. I hope that some of you can come out and watch the band perform around the beginning of September when we start competing. I know for sure that the Joust (our only home competition) is on the second Saturday in September. I hope some of you can come that day to support the band!

That was a pwerful and sobering message. Better than any Sunday sermon too. I know I haven’t done enough to convince some of my close family members that they need Jesus. Sometimes I just give up on them because they resist so hard, and the more I push it the less they hear me. But I continue to pray for them every day, especially my 20-year old son Jake. Would you pray for Jake too? Pray that he hears and understands the gospel of Christ that so many of his Christian friends try to share with him. Pray that he accepts Jesus as his personal savior, comes to church or a bible study to learn more about salvation, and begins living a life pleasing to God and for God. Thank you all who continue to share your faith with Jake, especially Chris, Alberto, Brent, Fitter and Tim. Please don’t stop or give up on him. I love you guys.

What I want to know is why, when confronted with the fact that our friends WILL go to hell if they don’t believe, we don’t tell everyone and anyone NOW about Jesus? I know… “I’m scared, busy, shy,…” Right??? Blah Blah Blah! Honestly! Some of us (including myself) need to get a grip! Some of us (myself) are so self-centered and to busy for other people. Boyfriends, girlfriends, school. Give me a break.
For all of you who ARE out there telling eveyone and anyone who the Jesus dude is…thank you. You wouldn’t believe how many people want to be just as daring as you are.

I want to know what ya’ll think. Burt and I are at a youth ministry conference this week. Today a speaker named Brian McLaren challenged us to be more proactive as Christians to help stop major global crises (extreme poverty, AIDS, malnutrition, caring for the earth).
Do you think we should be concerned about these things? What should we do about it?

    Vote -1 Vote +1RyanT reply on April 9th, 2008:

This is important, what is that one verse where Jesus is talking about “the least of these”. I’m not sure what it is but he commands us to care for everyone. This would also be an important ministry tool for reaching these people and showing them the forgiveness and love that Jesus offers.

“Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustices but rejoices whenever truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through ever circumstance.”
    1 Corinthians 13:4-7

Love is the most amazing thing that God has ever put on the earth and in heaven. It is his most precious gift to us. This love of God’s is limitless. God is every part of that love as explained in 1 Corinthians. He is perfect in every way and he will never fail in his love for every human being. God’s own son Jesus showed that love in the more amazing ways than any other man could ever accomplish. Jesus hung out with the sick, the tax collectors, the poor, the ugly, the dieing, and many others that most people did not like. Even though they were not loved by anyone else, Jesus loved them. Jesus cared for them, fed them, healed them, prayed with them. Jesus opened the kingdom of God for everyone who followed him, but he still considered himself equal to all mankind. Jesus made the greatest sacrifice out of love for all of us. He sacrificed his own life. He went through pain, torture, sadness, and all for the glory of God. He set the example for all of us on how to love. Some might be thinking that it is human nature to not like different people at times. Let me tell you this, Jesus was human. He loved all no matter where you are from, what you did, and how you lived. We are given the strength of Jesus and we have his strength within us. Romans 8:11 “The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by the same Spirit living within you.” Now explain to me who cannot love everyone that he or she meets? It is within your grasp to love all.
Love is so important to God over all things. God’s two greatest commandments to all of the world are about love. The first being “You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and your entire mind.” Matthew 22:37. The second is “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Matthew 22:39. Jesus calls these two commandments equally important and it is explained why in 1 John 4:20. “If someone says, ‘I love God,’ but hates a Christian brother and sister, that person is a liar; for if we don’t love people we can see, how can we love God, whom we cannot see?”
So I encourage everyone who strives to be like Jesus. Love everyone. It is Gods most important commandments. For as 1 Corinthians 13:13 says “Three things will last forever – faith, hope, and love – and the greatest of these is love.” When all else fails, love. For without love, we are nothing.

the new chronicles of narnia movie is going out this may…so i was thinking to myself that i didnt need to read the book (prince caspian) bc i would just see the movie. im sure you all have said that before. but i was given a copy of the audio book version….so i tried it out. i loved it. as i was finishing up the book, there is a scene where aslan the lion tells peter and susan that they cannot return to narnia ever again. thats kinda interesting to me bc i actually felt this tension for the characters…almost like i wanted to complain to the author that it wasnt fair.
i wonder why? was it because i had personally entered into the story and felt like i was one of them? was it because narnia is a picture of the way God intended things to be…and i didnt want to leave that place?

    Yup, Happy Easter everyone!
I loved the part of the sermon today about singing. Pastor Bill said something about how when we sing to God, he speaks to us or works through us. So all you people that don’t sing…SING!!! He wants to hear us even if we are awful :) Pastor Bill also said that no matter how great your voice is…compared to the angels, it’s like nails against a chalk-board (not very encoraging but…). We learned at the LIFE conference, that you are not singing for yourself, you sing for God.

    Vote -1 Vote +1RyanT reply on March 20th, 2008:

Uh, well the decisions in politics are mainly dictated by people’s morals. So it depends on where you GET your morals. I get mine from my religion. So does President Bush, when i heard him speak at NRB he talked much about this. So i think they mix very much so :)

When I have to speak in front of a lot of people I just practice with my eyes closed pretending I’m speaking in front of a large audience and then when I am actually speaking imagine yourself in your room (or somewhere else). Also it helps to not make eye contact.(its okay if you just read it). I am sure you will do fine though, I will pray for you… that always helps. Yo it’s Daniel’s and my last night in Nashville…we had an awesome day today. we got up earley today….7.30 lol and we headed over to the main area in the convention center…and there was this huge mass of people…waiting…to get into the governers ballroom for a speech by the president of the US of A! So i got in line and waited until 8.30 when the secret service finally started screening us for getting in. they made us take out all of our stuff and place it on a table and they made sure it was all real and wasn’t gunna hurt nobody and then they did the metal detector on us and you went thru and u were free!!!! lol so ya. and then u went into the governers ballroom where there were already ppl and chairs and stuff. so i sat down next to my good friend Miss Zimbabwe and we waited for a while. and then a comedian came on stage and started making us laugh and stuff. and then he got “the nod” from secret service that the pres had landed! he told us….and he began to tell some more jokes….he was real good….and then one of the secret service guys came up to the podium and put up the presidential seal! then shortly after the pres came up and gave a very good speech about his religion. he is a much better speaker when he is speaking from the heart…in this case his faith. Daniel and i were only like 25ft from the podium! and once he was done with his speech he came down from the podium and started shaking hands!!! so daniel and i rushed up to the stage to shake his hand…but we didn’t rush too fast because of fear of the Secret service tackling us and pummeling us! LOL! ya and so we (slowly) rushed up there and we were 10 ft away! then 5 ft! then 4! then 3! then 2! and we were right there face to face with the pres!!! so cool! and there were like 5 secret service at his side of course. i tried to shake his hand but there were too many people by me so i couldn’t daniel did tho(yes he washed it). it was uber cool! so ya that was the morning!!!!!! THEN…we went to a prerelease of the ben stein’s(ferris buler’s day off) new movie called expelled. i totally suggest you go see it. and we got to see ben stein himself! and even talk to him and hang out with him a little and even do a photo op! lol. so ya a good day! it was the last day of the conference. it was kinda sad saying goodbye to all of the friends that we have made over the past week but we got emails and stuff to KIT with them so ya. That is the story tomorrow(or today if u look at the time i wrote this) we will b flying out of nashville back home. ya’ll take care lol

    daniel checking in from Nashville.
you know what’s cool? The main thing I keep hearing at this convention is the importance of telling good stories. that’s nice confirmation that we are on the right track with storiesof.us::its a place for us to tell stories. tonight we went to a special event hosted by disney. their ceo and lead animator shared their own stories and weaved in disney stories too. i really like how the animator shared about his struggle to find purpose in life as he developed the animation of the beast (in beauty in the beast). when he discovered Christ, he then created the transformation of the beast to the prince symbolizing his own transformation. what made this really cool was that he animated these things for us live. we were also treated to hearing a lady name jodi benson who was the original singer for the little mermaid and many other disney movies sing some of her songs. very cool. and finally, ryan and i have a gift for each of you from the night. yeah, you will really like it.

    Hi from Nashville, Tennesee,

Ryan Tarbell and I (Daniel) came to Music City on Thursday afternoon for the National Religious Broadcasters media convention. We were greeted by 60 degree weather…I kind of forgot what that feels like, you know? But of course as luck would have it, we had snow last night. Now that I have gotten the weather out of the way, about the trip: We are staying at the Opryland Resort…it has three gimoungous indoor atriums that have waterfalls, palm trees, and flowers to make it feel like you are in the rainforest…well at least that’s the best way to describe it!. Anyways, Ryan and I are volunteers for convention. Our job is to distribute conference programs, pens, and these things called Bott Pads (not to be confused with rear cushioning:). Then we get to go to the educational sessions and everything else for free. (I will tell you more about that in the next blog.)
Before I peace out, let me tell you about the Bluebird Cafe. Nashville is the music city, right? Well they have this famous little joint called the Bluebird. It has live music every night. Their claim to fame is that there are numerous famous singer-songwriters that got their start at the Bluebird. Anyways, my buddy Mark (from college) and Ryan and I didnt get reservations (which apparently you have to do way in advance) so we got there early hoping we could get a seat. Because it was snowing (really, it was flurrying, but the locals kinda freak out), some people didnt show, so we got a seat on an old pew bench. It was in the round that night which means that four singer-songwriters sit in the middle and take turns performing a song while the other three can join in and jam along if they want. I loved it. Live music rocks…especially good live music. While I was listening I was reminded of the power of story. Each song was a story. Each performer was a story teller. It was a great challenge to keep telling stories.
We are loving Nashville and being reminded continually of how good God is so good to us. Peace.

woohoo! are you in goalie? i dont think i could ever play that position…too much pressure. i always feel bad for the dude (or girl) that has to block the overtime penalty shots.

how great is it to hear that someone took to the Lord up on his word and how it worked. Exciting news – can’t wait for the season to start so we all can come out and have a good time cheering

    Dear youth group,
I attended Valentines on Broadway. It made me wonder if you feel what I felt as a high school student and Christian. Would everyone see through my proclamation of faith? Would they see my weaknesses and not take my message seriously? Would they think that I’m just a kid and can’t really make a difference? Let me tell you what I saw on Friday night. I saw dedication and concentration. I saw hard work and maturity. I saw talent and passion. I was so impressed by the awesome job you did serving the Lord. The creativity you have will be an excellent tool for reaching people for God. I believe that God will use you. The people out there need the message you have to give. I will pray for you and your missions trip because you’ve made me believe in you.

Working with the teens I see their incredible passion and potential everyday (I’m kind of spoiled) . It is great that you not only saw what they have to offer but you took the time to write it – what a great message and what a great example – thank you

    Nicole,
What an awesome comment. Thank you for sharing that with the teens. I am sure it encouraged them. Wait to you see what they do at Day Camp. They are an awesome group that is not afraid to use their talents for the Lord.

Thanks Claire for the comment. I was really excited too how all the stories seemed to come together and make sense last night. God wrote an incredible story. This has been a cool journey for me too as I have been reminded of God’s story of redemption.

You are so right Clairebear!! As much as i hated the horseradish, it really made me think. I was totally touched by watching the Passion too. I have never seen that scene before. I just went home in amazement!! It’s really helping me change the way i think this week.

My favorite way to study the Bible was studying the three translations of one passage. It really helped me interpret and understand the Bible more. I found it helpful to translate the passage then into my own words, which helped me aply it to my own life even more.

Can I still be a part of the story!?? Pretty please!

That video of you guys was very very cool. Daniel, you are master media man for real. It makes me want to be having fun right along with all you guys!

I know I’m going to sound like a grandma, but ya’ll are growing up so fast! In case you have no clue who I am, this is a past B-dale Church YG leader writing from the jungles of Gabon, Africa.

Glad to hear the V-DAY banquet went well!

Well I’m off to check out the rest of this site. Don’t forget to say a prayer for your missionary and sister in Christ out here in Africa. I love you guys and will be in prayer for you.

    Lisa,
It’s great to hear from you and to know that you can still be a part of this even if you are all the way in Africa. Praying that you are doing well and no more car sickness I hope.
I had a blast at the vd banquet as the mater D even though some people thought I looked like a circus ring master, hummmm!!! I miss you and think of you often.

Im so proud of you. You made it to our site. Check it out…we are getting hits from Africa too!

Thanks Cheese for your encouragement, but unfortunately I am unable to identify you by your name “Cheese”. So if, for example, your parents call you by something other than “cheese” let me know. I saw the valentine’s banquet clips and everyone looked awesome. Not a ring master in sight!

PS Thanks for praying about the motion sickness. Mrs Marina sent me a ton of medicine and I am free from car sickness. BUT NOW, Please pray for a bacterial skin infection I have that’s not responding to medication. It’s really gross. Otherwise all is good. Loving Africa. Your prayers mean a lot!

so this is the new site huh
    pretty good daniel
but it would have been so much esier to just make a myspace account for the youth group
it would have taken like 15 min to make the site

    Vote -1 Vote +1MrsZ reply on February 29th, 2008:

Yes, it would have been easier to make a my space account…… but this website is your (you personally and you the youth group) way to connect your friends with what is happening in your life with Christ and your life at youth group! Invite your friends to come and take a peek at what’s happening in the lives of the youth at our church.
