Before you know it – oranges, yellows, reds and purples bombard your eyes from above. Blistering summer days give way to cooler, more comfortable temperatures. The leaves are falling and the landscape transforms before our eyes as autumn announces its arrival.

Change is in the air.

We all feel it, don’t we? The winds of change. They never cease, and are not limited to seasonal weather changes; we experience changing seasons in our lives too. However, the changes which come our way are not always welcomed with open arms. While change can be pleasant, at times change can be a dreadful, unwanted messenger. Returning from summer break to resume school, beginning a new career, moving to a new location, feeling the absence of a loved one or friend; each comes with its own challenges, fears and struggles. So, how does one accept change with a positive outlook? I believe that the key is resting in an unchanging God. He reminds us:

“For I, the LORD, do not change.” – Malachi 3:6a

“Jesus Christ is the same, yesterday, today and forever.” – Hebrews 13:8

One of the beautiful comforts followers of Jesus Christ enjoy is God’s unchanging nature. The fact that we can rest in his sovereign plan and that He can sustain us in the midst of the changing seasons in our lives. May this change of seasons remind us that God does not change, and because of that, let us face the changes we endure with open-arms, hopeful hearts, and assurance that good will come from change because of his loving care.
