Each year, students in the Youth Group 7-12 grade, sign-up to spend a weekend together, which includes: two overnights, a guest speaker, and a gathering event of five other youth groups. We call it DiscipleNow.
This year, our retreat focused on encouraging our students to “act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with God.” (Micah 6:8) This gave our students a “why to the what'” from the lessons heard at school about being a good citizen. We all want our teens to grow up as respectable people, but also be comfortable asking “why.”
When we understand the why of how honoring God stirs a response to help people, we will have a motivation to live it out. So, while bouncy houses, loud concerts, and ‘gaga ball’ were a part of our weekend, DiscipleNow had a lasting impact with helpful life lessons.
