It was a joy being with our Junior High and High School students in preparation for their summer onMission trips. So often, it is easy to place the emphasis of the trip on what WE are going to do when we arrive at our destination. I have found that often we don’t spend enough time in preparation and posturing ourselves appropriately. It could just be that we forget, or we might get busy. This year, in order to help our students prepare, we spent 30 minutes walking the students through the CAST prayer experience. CAST prayer stands for confession, adoration, supplication, and thanksgiving.
As part of the Christian and Missionary Alliance, prayer is extremely important for our movement. In fact, it is one of our seven core values. You can learn about them all at the video below. Here is how the C&MA describes prayer:
“PRAYER IS THE PRIMARY WORK OF GOD’S PEOPLE
We believe that nothing of lasting value can be done unless it is bathed in prayer. So passionate was his belief that prayer undergirds all ministry, Alliance founder A.B Simpson was compelled to create a prayer league to focus on the world’s evangelization. He believed that the Prayer Alliance would “prove to be the mightiest force in the spread of missions;” that force still drives The Alliance today.” as cited in http://www.cmalliance.org/about/beliefs/values
For both of our teams, spending time in prayer and worship helped “create a base for the work we’re going to do when we get there” as one student quoted. It is the hope that both teams will be completely dependent on God for their own spiritual development, and for the ability to do the work God has called them to this summer.
